| About me: | My unique diversity and background makes me best qualified to create an amazing henna experience for all of my customers. I have been doing henna for over 20 years and have A LOT of experience. I have done innumerable weddings, parties, and religious festivals. I can do both traditional style mehendi and more modern henna designs as well. I managed a henna body art shop at Universal Studios for several years during which I at times did hundreds of hennas a day! | ||||||
| You can read my official bio, here: [Faria M. Majeed: Official Artist Bio.] | |||||||
| What is henna? | As far back as we are aware, tribal peoples in cultures across the world have decorated themselves with markings using 'paints' derived from plants, berries, and other natural resources. From the crude to the intricate, history has recorded the varying styles of this form of decoration as ranging from lines of berry juice smeared across a warrior's cheek to intricate designs stained on the palms of an Indian bride. Now, in this modern day, we have developed an ancient form of this practice once known as ''mehendi' into what is today known as Henna Body Art. | ||||||
| Henna is made of leaves from the henna plant (whose botanical name is: lawsonia inermis) which are carefully cultivated and harvested at the special times in it's maturation cycle, crushed into a finely ground powder, and mixed with oils to create a smooth paste-like substance known as 'henna' and used to create henna body art. | |||||||
| Henna body art is the practice of applying this all-natural dye in the form of intricate line drawings to the skin to create complex patterns. These patterns traditionally were designed to emulate either jewelry or ornate lace, but have come to also include more tattoo-style designs elements as well. | |||||||
| About my henna: | I use only all-natural reddish-colored henna, which is imported from Morocco. I make it fresh for each session, and do not freeze and re-use it or use pre-made henna. I do NOT use "black" henna because it is NOT real henna, and contains chemical additives that are very dangerous. That is why I need to know at least a day in advance, to freshly make the all-natural henna I will use on you, specifically FOR YOU, a day before you want it applied. | ||||||
| About my pricing: | I take henna very seriously, and therefore do expect fair compensation for my art. I also understand the budgeting parameters of each event in which I participate and will work with you to come to a fair and pleasing compromise that will make everyone feel they are having the ultimate experience. | ||||||
| For my private customers I suggest a consultation, where you can look at my photos and we can share ideas about what you want for your special event. | |||||||
| For larger events, I do have a team of creative professionals who have worked with me in the past, and can assist me in accomodating any size group. | |||||||
| About the photos: | The following photo examples show several stages of the henna process, some taken immediately after application, in which case the henna may be greenish looking or dark green/blacker LOOKING when drying and dye-ing onto the skin. I always ONLY use the all-natural REDdish colored henna, no matter how the pictures may appear on your monitor. | ||||||
| How it will look on you: | Some photos show the "after" effect of the dye, which is the reddish stain on the skin. | ||||||
| You should be aware that the reddish-color is dependent on how well you take care of the henna once applied, how long you leave it to dye, how warm the skin is/ where it is applied (palms and fingers are warmer than the tops of your hands, etc), the pH balance of your skin, as well as several other factors. Therefore, two people can both get their henna done at the same time, and experience different coloration results, which is normal. Also, you could get henna done on multiple body parts, with varying coloration results, which is also normal. | |||||||
